TOEFL Applicants whose native language is not English must take the TOEFL or the IELTS and (for the TOEFL) have the official score reported to Cornell from the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The TOEFL/IELTS requirement may be waived if the applicant meets at least one of these criteria: 1) is a native citizen of the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada (except Quebec). (NOTE: Applicants who are citizens of India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, or Singapore are NOT exempt from the TOEFL requirement). 2) studied in full-time status for at least two academic years within the last five years in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand, or with English language instruction in Canada or South Africa. You must submit a transcript that shows you have attended college in one of these approved locations. Admission to Cornell is not possible without having at least the minimum score in each category as set by the Cornell University Graduate School, and there are no exceptions to this rule. Minimum scores allowable for admission: Writing 20, Listening 15, Reading 20, Speaking 22. In addition, the School of OR&IE requires a minimum total TOEFL score of 100. TOEFL University code is 2098; department/school code is 67 or 69, but is not needed. At this time, ORIE does not have a department specific minimum requirement different from the one set by the Graduate School. GRE GREs are required. We do not accept GMAT results. Official scores from the testing service must be reported, and admission cannot be finalized until received. Students who have received (or will have received) a Bachelor degree from Cornell University are exempt from the GRE requirement for application to the MEng program. University Code is 2098 for score reporting.Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores must be submitted by applicants, through the testing agency system, unless they have completed or are completing an undergraduate degree at Cornell. Scores should be reported to code 2098, which is Cornell's code number.Applicants who have taken the GREs and are accepted into the program almost all have a Quantitative score in excess of 740, have scored in a high percentile in the Analytical Writing portion, and have above-average Verbal scores. Median scores of recent MEng class: 680 (165) Verbal, 800 (166) Quantitative, 3.50 Analytical. GMAT GMAT scores cannot be substituted for GRE scores.
